Blanche E. Fosco

TICONDEROGA | Blanche E. Fosco, 101, of Ticonderoga, passed away on All Saints Day, Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2022, at Elderwood Rehab of Ticonderoga. Blanche was born into a large and loving Italian American family in West New York, N.J., on Dec. 15, 1920. She was the daughter of the late Michael and Carmella Cocciadiferro. She was predeceased by her husband, Michael ("Curly") Fosco. She was also predeceased by her siblings: Mildred Paterniti, Edward Cocciadiferro, Frank Cocciadiferro, Dolores Cochran, Michael Cocciadiferro, Helen Cusano, and Blanche Cocciadiferro, who died at age 3 during the 1918 flu epidemic. Blanche is survived by her son, Michael Fosco, and his wife Lynda of Providence. R.I., and her grandson, Stefan Fosco, and his wife Courtney and their children Jacob, Parker, Helaina, and Corinne of Niskayuna, N.Y. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and grand-nieces and -nephews who have many happy memories of visits with their favorite Aunt Blanche and Uncle Curly in Ticonderoga, swimming in Lake George and fishing in Lake Champlain. As a young woman, Blanche worked as a stenographer on Wall Street in New York City for the prestigious Carter, Ledyard & Milburn Law Firm. While employed there, she worked with many wealthy and well-known N.Y.C. clients. This required her to receive U.S. Coast Guard clearance. This ID card, issued in 1942, was recently found in her carefully filed records that she maintained throughout her life. Blanche would often tell her family about the wonderful times she had working in the city. From an office window, she took great pictures of the ticker-tape parade through N.Y.C. welcoming our U.S. Military home from WWII. Her mind remained sharp throughout her 101 years, and her detailed descriptions of the city and her time there were quite interesting and entertaining. When Blanche moved with her husband and young son to Curly's hometown of Ticonderoga, she adapted to country living because of her ever-present positive attitude. She worked for many years as a legal secretary for the Gerald Lawson law firm. She was very involved in the community. She was an active member of the Catholic Daughters. After retiring, she volunteered at the Ticonderoga Elementary School, and was a much-honored volunteer at the Moses Ludington Hospital. She captivated all with her ever-present smile and laughter. Blanche was loved and admired by all who knew her because of her ability to create a welcoming and happy home; her devotion to people and not material things; her resiliency when faced with hardship and personal loss; and her ability to remain interested and interesting! To everyone who knew Blanche, we share a message to you that we received from Lynda's niece and one that we believe Blanche would echo: "I never want you to have to grieve. I wish that you can celebrate her life in the same beautiful way she lived it." Relatives and friends called Monday, Nov. 7, 2022, from 9 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home, 11 Algonkin St., Ticonderoga. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 7 at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Ticonderoga. The Rev. Albert J. Hauser officiated. The Rite of Committal followed at the family plot of St. Mary's Parish Cemetery of Ticonderoga.
