Bobcats survive against Cougars, Eagles

ELLENBURG | After a back-and-forth opening three sets that saw the Northeastern Clinton varsity volleyball team hold a 2-1 edge, Northern Adirondack responded by allowing only 13 points — zero in the final set — in a 3-2 comeback win Oct. 25. After splitting the first two sets (25-16 NCCS and 25-13 NAC), the Cougars pulled out an extra-points, 27-25 win for the 2-1 lead. The Bobcats then scored a 25-13 fourth-set win before sweeping through the fifth set with a 15-0 win. "We started out slow tonight and made some mistakes that cost us points," said Bobcat coach Elizabeth Brown. "We were able to pull it together to get the win in five sets. This was our last game before sectionals so now is the push to prepare for that. Mackenzie Lawrence had a great night from the service line. Mackenzie, Kate LaPoint, Emily Griffin, Brook Trombley, and Maddy Dobson played a great defense game against a team that was not willing to give up tonight." Lawrence finished with 17 digs, 11 aces, and seven kills for the Bobcats, with Kate LaPoint adding 16 digs, 10 kills, five aces and five assists; Griffin nine digs, six kills, five aces and four assists; Trombley nine digs; Dobson 12 digs, a kill and ace; Phoebe Borrette nine assists, four digs and two kills; Lilyanne Husband three digs and three aces; Chloe Defayette four digs, two assists and two kills; and Julia Bosley four digs. A day earlier, the Bobcats scored a 3-1 win over Beekmantown after splitting the opening to sets, with the NAC winning 25-18 and the Eagles 25-16. After, the Bobcats scored wins of 25-22 and 26-24 as Griffin tallied 15 digs, six aces and five assists; LaPoint 13 digs, 10 kills and two assists; Borrette 12 assists, 11 digs, and two kills; Lawrence 10 digs, nine kills, six aces and three blocks; Dobson eight digs, one ace and one assist; Husband five digs, an ace and assist; Defayette two kills, an ace and a dig; Raegan Brunell two digs and an ace; Bosley two digs and Trombley one dig. "Tonight we honored the seniors from both teams," Brown said. "The girls fought hard to get the win on senior night and were able to secure the win. Every member of the team played their hearts out tonight. There were many great saves and volleys from both sides. Emily Griffin, Kate LaPoint, and Mackenzie Lawrence were strong from the service line. Kate LaPoint and Mackenzie Lawrence had strong games at the net. During the fourth set when we were going into extra points, I told the team they had to want the win and they showed that they did. I'm very proud of how the team has been playing the last few games." Dillon Bronson had 14 assists, five digs and two aces for the Eagles, with Anna Dutil adding 12 digs and three kills; Kayla Castine 21 digs; Charlize Daniels 17 digs, five aces, four kills and two blocks; Janna Ruest nine assists and a kill; Ella Repas seven kills, five digs, three aces and a block; Abie Proper four digs, three kills and three aces; Samantha Parker three kills and two digs; Macey Lamora three digs; Heaven Franklin three digs; and Alaine Denton two kills and a block. "Dillon Bronson and Janna Ruest were able to set up Beekmantown's hitters and we did our best to get underneath those hits," said Brown. "Ella Repas was strong at the net for Beekmantown." Eagles top Bombers in four Beekmantown scored set wins of 25-18, 25-13, and 25-22 to take a 3-1 match win over Lake Placid Oct. 25, with the Blue Bombers scoring a third set, 25-14 win. Charlize Daniels led the Eagles in three categories with 16 digs, 11 kills, and six aces, as Heaven Franklin added 12 digs; Dillon Bronson 11 digs, 14 assists, and two aces; Ella Repas nine kills, five digs, four aces and a block; Kayla Castine six digs; Janna Ruest six assists, one ace and one dig; Alex Rock four digs and three assists; Abie Proper four kills, three digs, and three aces; Anna Dutil three digs, three kills, two aces and a block; Alaine Denton two blocks and a kill; Kennedy Ritter two digs; and Allie Cringle on kill. Julia Crawford led the Blue Bombers with 19 kills, three aces, six digs and an assist, with Nadia Phillip adding 16 digs, four kills, three aces and an assist; Norah Galvin 16 assists, six digs, three kills and an ace; Sydney Lawrence 13 digs and an ace; Ellie Evans two digs; Abbey Gavin two digs and an assist; Sydney Garrison an ace and dig; Bailey Smith a kill and dig; and Haleigh LaMare an assist. Nighthawks sweep Red Storm Peru scored set wins of 25-15, 25-21, and 25-13 in a 3-0 sweep of Saranac Lake Oct. 25. Rachel Madore had 27 assists to go with seven digs, four aces and four kills for the Nighthawks. Alyssa Bartholomew added 20 digs, four aces and two assists while Katie Finn added 10 kills and 10 digs; Haley-Ann Lozier six digs, four kills, an ace and block; Elly Cunningham five digs, three kills and three aces; Maddy Robinson five kills, three blocks and an assist; Kylee Lehman four kills, an ace and block; and Gabrielle Cunningham three digs. Azra Michael had four digs and four assists for the Red Storm, with Lexie Donaldson contributing four digs and three aces; Anica Null three digs, two kills and an ace; Emily Gat two digs and a kill; Malea White a dig and kill; Payton Barry two digs and an ace; and Madie Hathaway one dig. Patriots beat Chiefs AuSable Valley scored a 3-1 match win over Saranac Oct. 24, scoring set wins of 25-21 in the first, then 25-23 and 25-18 in the third and fourth. Kendal Lawrence had 12 assists and four kills for the Patriots, as Raven Sessoms added 11 digs, five kills and two aces; Halee Wood eight digs and two aces; Piper Dubuque seven kills; Layla Lincoln five kills and three digs; Makayla Young five aces and two digs; Taylor Lafountain three assists, two aces and two kills; Elizabeth Douglass two kills; Rozzlyn Beane three digs and a kill; and Shauna Depo three assists, a kill and a dig.
