Clinton Co. Board of Realtors and Town of Plattsburgh continue partnership

PLATTSBURGH | The Clinton County Board of Realtors (CCBR) was recently awarded three National Association of Realtors Smart Growth Grants in collaboration with the Town of Plattsburgh. The projects are a continuation of a partnership that was established in 2020 and fostered by Andrew Castine, Political Advocacy chair; Kira Witherwax 2022 board president; and Town of Plattsburgh Supervisor Michael Cashman. CCBR worked with the Town's Planning and Community Development Department to form concepts for each grant. The Level 1 Smart Growth Grant award was for $1,500, to assist in the planning of a Realtor regional event next July to be held at SUNY Plattsburgh, where the town will present on smart growth and the valuable results of this partnership for a projected crowd of over 400 regional development professionals. The Level 2 and Level 3 Smart Growth Grants were awarded a combined total of $15,000, which was matched with another $10,000 between the town and CCBR, to create a Developer's Guide for the Town of Plattsburgh. The town had been considering this project following four years of Smart Growth Planning. After the success of the 2020-2021 partnership with CCBR, both organizations felt that pursuing this project was an obvious next step. In 2020-2021, CCBR and the town partnered to create the Former Clinton County Airport Smart Growth Plan that was adopted by the town in January 2022. Using this plan and the 2019 Town Center Smart Growth Plan, the Developer's Guide will be the primary implementation tool for achieving the goals of both plans. "The Town of Plattsburgh is excited to take this next step into the implementation phase of Smart Growth. The Clinton County Board of Realtors has not only been an incredible partner but an invaluable resource to us as we formulate these plans and tools. Their perspective and knowledge is critical in ensuring the success of these programs. I want to thank CCBR for continuing to be a leader in our development community. Our common goal of Smart Growth is vital to our community identity and economic growth of not only the Town of Plattsburgh but the entire region," said Cashman. Clinton County Board of Realtors officials said they are proud to assist Clinton County communities as they develop future plans to surpass the wants and needs of residents. The Developer's Guide will contain robust market information, a clear pathway toward approval and permitting, and promote our area for its diverse and substantial development potential while demonstrating Smart Growth values and needs as a community such as housing, complete streets, mixed-use development, vibrant and accessible public spaces, and protection of scenic and valuable natural resources.
