UPDATED: Couple wanted for child's death arrested locally

PLATTSBURGH | A couple found in the City of Plattsburgh were arrested on a pending murder case in Ohio involving the death of a young child. Clinton County Sheriff David Favro said Katherine and John Snyder II were taken into custody without incident at about 6 p.m. following a multi-agency interstate investigation. Local authorities were alerted to the ongoing search for the Snyders and worked with the United States Marshal Service to locate and arrest the pair. Favro said local law enforcement were notified by the Springfield Police Department to execute arrest warrants accusing the Snyders of felony murder and assault in connection with an Ohio case. Though officials did not believe there was a direct danger or threat to the local community, Favro said, "It just shows we never know who is in any community and it's always in everyone's best interests to know their surroundings and for people to be vigilant." The 51-year-old parents were arraigned in Plattsburgh City Court before Judge Timothy Blatchley before being remanded to Clinton County Correctional Facility pending extradition proceedings in County Court in late October. According to Ohio court documents, the Snyders are accused of intentionally causing the October 2016 death of their adopted 8-year-old son. Authorities said the Synders' five other children also showed signs of physical abuse and neglect at the time. Their arrest stemmed from a recent 26-count indictment involving murder and child endangerment.
