ADK Wine & Food Festival raised $23K for youth-mentoring program

LAKE GEORGE | After a two-year pandemic-driven hiatus, the Adirondack Wine & Food Festival people weren't so sure 2022 would pull in a healthy crowd. But the numbers are back, and it turns out they had nothing to worry about. Festival owner and Adirondack Winery co-owner Sasha Pardy said that a post-event survey revealed that nearly 7,000 attended the sold-out event. Pardy said the largely affluent revelers ("53 percent have a household income of $100,000 and greater") represented residents as well as first-time and returning tourists — 84 percent of whom also spent money in Greater Lake George Regional restaurants, bars, and other attractions, as well as the lodging industry. But an important local nonprofit also profited from the two-day festival. Big Brothers and Big Sisters of the Southern Adirondacks (BBBSSADK) received nearly $23,000 from funds raised through a portion of ticket sales and a battery of raffles for vendor-donated baskets. Based in Glens Falls and begun in 1975, BBBSSADK provides free one-on-one mentoring for children and young adults in Washington, Warren, and southern Saratoga counties. "Wow! The festival patrons stepped up to the plate to help our kids this year in record numbers," noted Bill Moon, BBBSSADK CEO. "We raised almost $23,000 to help secure mentors for the 152 youth currently on our waitlist; every child deserves a mentor, and the Adirondack Wine & Food Fest is helping us make that a reality. These funds will make so many opportunities and experiences possible for the children in our community.
