Downtown gears up for Lake City Arts Festival

PLATTSBURGH | The City of Plattsburgh is gearing up to host the first Lake City Arts Festival Saturday, Aug. 27 to showcase local and regional talent, including a Kid's Art Zone, six live performances on the Margaret Street stage, mural walks, more than 25 local vendors and artisans, local restaurants, food trucks and more. PROGRAMMING The downtown festival from 12-6:30 p.m. promises something for everyone. The Kid's Zone located in the Betty Little Arts Park runs from 12-4 p.m. and is hosted by The Link Arts Center, featuring a collage station, bubble prints, face painting and other activities to engage and inspire young artists. The Margaret Street Stage, sponsored by Schluter Systems, will host six local music acts including Amanda Dagley, Austin Petrashune, Sooner than Before, Luisa Mei, Antwon Levee and Dust and Tryst LaNoir & Band. The Strand Center for the Arts will host pottery demonstrations and Raku firing on their front lawn and hosting an exhibit of local artist Brianna Forkey in the Strand Gallery. Event attendees can take a Mural Walk downtown and discover the many murals in Downtown Plattsburgh and meet some of the artists who created them. Finally, Margaret Street will be taken over by 25+ local artists and artisans alongside art demonstrations, and food trucks. Downtown businesses and restaurants will be taking to the streets to showcase their products and food. ROAD CLOSURES Residents should plan accordingly for the closure of Margaret Street between the Betty Little Arts Park and Protection Avenue. Brinkerhoff Street and Protection Avenue will be closed between Margaret and Marion Streets. Road closures will begin at 8 a.m. and end at 8 p.m. Parking is prohibited on closed streets and parked vehicles will be towed. Event attendees are encouraged to park in the Arnie Pavone Parking lot off Margaret Street or the Durkee Street parking lot. The event is free, open to the public and family-friendly. Dogs are welcome but must remain on a leash at all times. FESTIVAL INFORMATION The Lake City Arts Festival is coproduced by the City of Plattsburgh and Plattsburgh Arts Coalition.
