Michigan Festival coming to Plattsburgh in 2023

PLATTSBURGH | Planning for the first-ever Town of Plattsburgh Michigan Festival is already underway after the latest Michigan Month celebration gained national attention. As the second-annual month of everything michigan came to a close Aug. 1, Town Supervisor Michael Cashman unveiled even more in store for next year. "In 2023, we're going to be hosting the Town of Plattsburgh Inaugural Michigan Festival," Cashman said from outside the American Legion Post 1619 on Rand Hill Road- site of the upcoming festival. As planning continues, Cashman said the attraction will feature live music, food trucks, corn hole competitions, and more. "And of course, we're going to have michigans." The 2022 summer celebration also gained momentum as area residents and those from afar joined the light-hearted competition to visit area michigan stands and businesses, even featuring a Michigan Fun Run held July 16 at Cadyville Rec Park. The inaugural Michigan Mile Fun Run and 5K drew big crowds, including visitors from across the state, including a couple from Syracuse who heard about the growing local tradition and wanted to join in on the fun. Mike Sweeny, a Plattsburgh native who now lives in Hawaii, was named the Town of Plattsburgh Honorary Michigan Ambassador after word of his childhood michigan memories made their way around the pacific island and back to his hometown 5,000 miles away. The 2022 month-long celebration also saw a new historical marker honoring the cherished local staple courtesy of a town-sought grant through the William G. Pomeroy Foundation and gained national attention in media coverage for its unique offerings.
