Murder investigation: Footage from expanded area could be key

PLATTSBURGH | As family and friends now prepare to lay Monique Yanulavich to rest, New York State Police are again asking for the public's help in locating key information into her death. On Tuesday, July 19, State Police asked for surveillance footage from an expanded area between the hours of 10:30 p.m. July 13 and 7 a.m. Thursday, July 14- the day the 45-year-old mother of two was found brutally slain in the parking lot of Champlain National Bank on Route 3. The latest plea for information included both a wider time frame and expanded area around Yanulavich's Westwood Drive residence and the commercial area where she was located. Police are now asking businesses and homeowners in the Smithfield Boulevard, Consumer Square, Ampersand Drive, Rugar Street, Labarre Street and Sorrell Avenue area to review and report any security systems and cameras facing pedestrian foot traffic areas in the overnight and early morning hours. Anyone with footage from those areas in the newly released time frame is asked to contact State Police at 518-563-3761. More than 100 leads have been followed since Yanulavich's death last Thursday in what police called a targeted attack. The search has brought the collective state, federal and local investigation across county lines and beyond, including to the Interstate 87 median in the Moriah area, where officials reportedly secured undisclosed evidence in the case. Authorities previously asked anyone in the areas of Route 3/Cornelia Street, Broad Street, Rugar Street and Westwood Drive to check home security systems for any signs of suspicious activity between the hours of 1 a.m. and 6 a.m. Thursday, July 14. As the intense investigation continued Tuesday, Monique (Carroll) Yanulavich's loved ones somberly prepared for her services, which will be held privately later this week. Yanulavich, a West Chazy native and 1996 graduate of Beekmantown High School, was a much-loved local mother and grandmother of two who is survived by a large extended family in the area.
