Local golfers compete at states

WILTON/ELMIRA | Nineteen golfers from Section VII competed at the NYSPHSAA state championships June 4-6 at the McGregor Links Golf Course in Wilton (girls) and the Mark Twain Golf Course in Elmira. Girls For the first time, Section VII took a 10-member team to the state tournament, with Willsboro's Tekla Fine-Lease finishing in a tie for 35th with rounds of 84 and 90 for a total of 174 over the two-day, 36 hole event. Albany Academy's Kennedy Swedick carded two rounds of even-par 72 golf for the individual win. Leah Hamel of Saranac had a top round of 106 and placed in a tie for 92nd with a 217 total, while other Section VII finishers included Plattsburgh High's Steffi Trombley in a tie for 98th (109-229), Boquet Valley's Rachel Behm tied for 104 (116-240), Northeastern Clinton's Samara Bosley tie for 104 (119-240), AuSable Valley's Emma Vilegi tied for 106 (120-246), Boquet Valley's Ella Lobdell tied for 106 (121-240), Northeastern Clinton's Hanna Bechard 108 (129-259), and Ticonderoga's Kim Wojcik 109 (129-265). Ailsa Kohler carded a first-day total of 125 as part of the team event. Boys Lake Placid's Brady Tremblay led the field of nine boys golfers at Mark Twain Golf Course June 5-6, carding a 36-hole total of 161 with a low round of 76 to place 49th. Peru's Keegan Smith followed with a two-day total of 170 (84) for 73rd, while Thomas Clarke of Moriah was 89th with a 178 (83), Logan Gilbo of Moriah tied 90th with 180 (89) along with Lake Placid's Chris Byrne (89), Porter Goodman of AuSable Valley 92nd at 181 (89), Grady Draper of Lake Placid 94th at 184 (85), Chase Letourneau of Northeastern Clinton 95th at 185 (91), and Zach Dubray of Beekmantown 97th at 187 (86).
