What would you like to see in a Ti DRI?

TICONDEROGA | The New York State Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) is a state program designed to foster the transformation of community centers and propel them into new ages of sustained prosperity and that's exactly what Ticonderoga is trying to do. A DRI can provide substantial funding to downtown communities to further efforts n creating vibrant centers for residents and visitors alike. In the past, the program has provided $10 million to winning communities and Ticonderoga has formed a committee to now plan for that very opportunity and other possible Economic Development programs. Local leaders and business advocates said one of the most important parts of the application process is public participation, and the committee is now asking all residents to share their ideas. Ticonderoga Supervisor Mark Wright, a DRI Committee member, said "Together, in coordination with local and regional agencies, businesses, organizations and you, our local residents, we are working diligently to plan for the economic future of Ticonderoga. We are building a vibrant downtown and business community. "As part of this ongoing effort and our economic development efforts, we have formed a committee to plan and apply for the NYS DRI as well as possible other NYS opportunities. We are working diligently to continue to fortify Ticonderoga, create a vibrant economy, and continue to make Ticonderoga an exceptional place to live, work and visit. We need your ongoing participation to make all of this possible." To help reach as many residents as possible, officials are hosting a Live Webinar Open House Tuesday, June 7 at 6 p.m. Pre-registration is required. Following the webinar, residents can join an "On Your Own Virtual" Open House anytime through June 21. An informative in-person Open House will also be held Tuesday, June 14 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Ticonderoga Elk's Lodge at 5 Tower Avenue. A short virtual DRI Community Survey will be another way residents can share ideas. A new Ticonderoga DRI website and informational videos will be unveiled Wednesday, June 1. Once launched, residents can visit www.TiconderogaDRI.com to register for the live webinar, access the virtual Open House, see notices for in-person Open House events and participate in the survey in addition to a wide range of information on the DRI progress, guidelines and local efforts. Communities in the DRI application must showcase past, current, and future investments and work together to create a list of shovel-ready and future projects to be ignited by the effort. With numerous examples of transformative change in Ticonderoga already, officials said this endeavor will continue to grow a community focus on a collective economic future. Potential projects, as well as past or current investments, can also be detailed on the Ticonderoga DRI website. Considered a cornerstone of New York's economic development program, DRIs help transform downtown centers to offer higher quality of life while serving as magnets for redevelopment, business, job creation, and economic and housing diversity. Participating communities are nominated by Regional Economic Development Councils based on the downtown's potential for transformation and to receive funding toward strategic investment plans and key catalytic projects that advance the revitalization vision. "This is your chance to dig in, dream big and help shape the future of Downtown for your community," PRIDE of Ticonderoga Executive Director Elisha Bartlett said.
