Gov. Hochul tours Nova Bus in North Country visit

PLATTSBURGH | Gov. Kathy Hochul made a stop in Plattsburgh April 26 to highlight regional investments in the FY 2023 budget and tour Nova Bus, the area's internationally leading electric bus manufacturer. The visit follows Gov. Hochul's Earth Day announcement of the next wave deployment of zero-emission buses that will be manufactured in Plattsburgh. "Better days are ahead not only for New York, but also for the North Country, as we invest in the places that make this region so special while laying the groundwork to attract companies that will bring the good-paying jobs of the future," Gov. Hochul said from the live-streamed event Tuesday afternoon. "From targeted investments in transportation infrastructure and job creation to significant funding for economic drivers like the World University Games, to providing tax credits for hardworking families and small businesses, this historic budget delivers for the North Country in a big way. Our economic recovery isn't about Upstate versus Downstate - it's about One New York State. I am proud that our economic recovery efforts will not only launch the greatest comeback this state has ever seen, but also deliver results for every corner of New York State." North Country Chamber of Commerce co-hosted the stop with Nova Bus and the city and town of Plattsburgh, highlighting the region's bi-national transportation cluster. "In addition to covering key elements of the 2022-23 New York State budget, Gov. Hochul highlighted New York's commitment to the electrification of public transportation and the key position Nova Bus is in to produce electric buses for North America and the world," North Country Chamber officials said after the tour. "It is a perfect example of the power of economic connection between New York and Quebec, and it was great to have the Governor on-site, seeing the active production of electric buses for cities across the country. Our thanks to Gov. Hochul for her visit and for the state's continued support of our bi-national transportation equipment cluster, and to Nova Bus for their hospitality." After applauding local officials, Assemblyman Billy Jones, Town Supervisor Michael Cashman and City Mayor Chris Rosenquest, Gov. Hochul talked of the North Country's strength and perseverance, as well as its national scenic appeal. The area's rich transportation and manufacturing sector was also a key topic as she called the region an 'epicenter' in the state and nation's innovative development. "Zero carbons emission to meet our high, robust and aggressive energy standards for the future. This is the future unfolding. The hybrid buses, transitioning to all-electric, and you're making it here. So I hope that locals who may not think about this when you drive by, that you say, 'Wow, we're changing the future of our state and ensuring a greener environment for our children's children because of what's going on here in Plattsburgh.' So wear that with a badge of honor," Hochul said. "I've been to NovaBus, I've been to Alstom - seeing that they're making Metro rail cars, or whenever I'm riding the subway, I say, made in the North Country, too. So I'm kind of bragging a lot, but also the dozens of companies that are part of this whole supply chain, too. That's the beauty of this. As you continue to expand here, you're not just increasing workers and the workforce for your own company, but also, literally, there's 7 to 8,000 jobs in this industry alone right here. And they could go anywhere in the country, except they know this is the place for you to get that incredibly hardworking, dedicated workforce, which is second to none."
