New vegetable farm in Plattsburgh offering CSA shares

PLATTSBURGH | North Point Community Farm is a new farm in Plattsburgh that will be growing produce for sale through local CSA, farmers' markets, and wholesale. North Point Community Farm is owned and operated by Mike Champagne and Marisa Lenetsky. They recently relocated from the Hudson Valley to Mike's hometown of Plattsburgh, with the intent to create a farm that offers the community affordable high-quality produce. Both Mike and Marisa separately began their farming careers in 2014 and have worked at farms across the northeast. In 2017, working at neighboring farms in Hudson, they became friends and slowly began planning what has become North Point Community Farm. Last fall, they secured 50 acres of prime farmland on Military Turnpike and will be organically growing 15 acres of diversified vegetables this season. As a "community" farm, they are focusing on the development of a community-supported agriculture (CSA) program. Members sign up for a season of produce and receive a weekly selection of freshly harvested vegetables. This arrangement provides critical financial support for farmers in the early season, allowing them to purchase fertilizer, potting soil, seeds, and other supplies. In turn, members not only get a great value on high quality produce, but also the opportunity to become connected with the farm. North Point Community Farm is offering a CSA with pickup locations both in the City of Plattsburgh and on the farm. CSA members get free access to an on-farm pick your own flower and herb garden. A variety of share sizes are available to meet the needs of any size household. Becoming close friends with Mike, having similar goals of starting a community-oriented farm, and realizing that there is a need for high-quality vegetables in Plattsburgh has made the establishment of our farm here feel meant to be."
