50 years strong, District No. 3 recognized for decades of service

PLATTSBURGH | Local lawmakers, families and fellow volunteers alike recently honored District No. 3 Fire Department, its charter members and its five decades of service to the Plattsburgh and surrounding community. "We are blessed to have these professional volunteer firefighters in our community. With values of service, excellence and pride for community, the founding members established a legacy that continues to live on through the unselfish contributions of the District No. 3 Fire Department membership now fifty years strong," Plattsburgh Town Supervisor Michael Cashman said following the department's April 9 annual awards banquet. "We shall be forever grateful to the collective membership who have and are providing their labor and time to protect and serve our town, and the Greater Plattsburgh community. In celebration of the golden anniversary, Cashman presented the department with a Town of Plattsburgh Proclamation. The department also received a New York State Proclamation courtesy of Assemblyman Billy Jones, who commended the department for its continued dedication and legacy of service. The Assembly Citation was presented to Chairman Dennis Burnell who accepted it on behalf of fellow charter members Wendell Burnell, Gary Gudz, Marcel Giroux, George Giroux, Edward Goslow, Roger Harwood, Floyd Dominy, Ken Dumas, George Benchskey, Ezriel Reome and Calvin Haskins. Roger Harwood and Mike Ratner were recognized for 50 years of service while Kevin Seymour was recognized for 45 years of dedicated service. "Firefighters are always willing to answer the call when North Country residents are in need- please join me in congratulating these firefighters and celebrating this important milestone." The department was also recognized with proclamations from U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer, U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik and Sen. Dan Stec.
