St. Joseph's opens much-needed new Detox Center

SARANAC LAKE | St. Joseph's Addiction Treatment & Recovery Centers has added additional addiction treatment support to the North Country with the opening of the Robert R. Reiss Community Service Center in Saranac Lake. The new center at 50 John Munn Rd. provides 24/7 detoxification level of treatment with the intention of subsequent transition to the appropriate level of continued treatment for individuals experiencing alcohol and drug crises. MEDICALLY SUPERVISED WITHDRAWAL The Office of Addiction Services and Supports–licensed, 10-bed Medically Supervised Withdrawal and Stabilization Program provides 24-hour assistance for individuals to manage mild to moderate substance use withdrawal symptoms within a safe, supportive environment. "This service provides the bridge between crisis and treatment, which is crucial in building a road to recovery," St. Joseph's Director of Detoxification Services Sam Hall said. Prior to St. Joseph's new facility, individuals in need of detoxification care were primarily limited to facilities in Albany or Syracuse, nearly three hours away and where upon arrival, beds were often unavailable. In turn, St. Joseph's Detox represents a vital addition to the rural North Country region's continuum of care, officials said in late March. FIRST-TIME TEEN SERVICES In a world in which addiction is increasingly impacting children at a younger age, it has also become necessary to intervene in ways previously only common for adults and has become evident that withdrawal management services (detox) are now necessary for adolescents as well. St. Joseph's newly opened detox services have the distinction of being able to offer these services to adolescents 16-17 years old. The reason for the distinction in ages is the developmental readiness for the typical withdrawal management interventions. New York State's Office of Addiction Services and Supports (OASAS) has not previously allowed the provision of these services within this level of treatment, but after months of St. Joseph's developing programmatic and safety protocols, the office has approved these necessary services for the first time within that level. Services at the highly applauded detox center include: · Medical/Clinical assessments · Individualized lengths-of-stays · Case management · Treatment groups · Recovery support and treatment planning St. Joseph's accepts most insurance, as well as New York State Medicaid, while self-pay for services is determined on a sliding scale depending on income. Transportation may also be available for both admission and departure. The center is at the site of St. Joseph's expanded Saranac Lake Outpatient Clinic and provides connection with the agency's Open Access Center, which connects people in need with support for alcohol, drug, and mental health challenges.
