PHS tops AV in boys hoops

PLATTSBURGH | The Plattsburgh High varsity boys basketball team was able to continue a second-quarter push into the second half, scoring a 65-57 win over sixth-ranked (Class C) AuSable Valley Jan. 18. The Hornets (Honorable mention in Class B state rankings) were able to cut the Patriot lead to four, 35-31, heading into the half, and kept the pressure on their foe throughout the second 16 minutes of play. Phillips led the Hornets with 17 points while King added 16 points. Dylan Crowley was a big factor in the first half, finishing with 13 points. Peter Wylie added six points while Ethan Mulholland and Brayden Trombley each scored two points for the Hornets. Cougars top Sentinels Nine members of the Northeastern Clinton varsity boys basketball team scored in the Cougars' 47-32 win over Ticonderoga Jan. 18. Darren DuBois led the Cougars with 25 points, with Jordan Brown scoring five, Thomas Gilbo four, Brayden Monette four, Dawson Guay two, Lucas Dueso two, Evan Manor two, Stephan Garrow two, and Austen Dubuque one. Red Storm pull away from Eagles Landon Faubert hit some key buckets down the stretch to help Saranac Lake to a 57-45 win over Beekmantown Jan. 18. Andrew VanNatten led the Eagles with 12 points, with Josh Burgin adding 10, Nate Sand eight, Nathan Parliament seven, Peyton Viau five, and Keith Parent three. Knights defeat Wildcats The Seton Catholic varsity boys basketball team for double-digit nights from three players in a 73-29 win over Scrhoon Lake Jan. 18. Aiden Pearl led all scorers with 30 points while adding 15 rebounds for the Knights, while Alex Coupal added 15 and Sergio Vega 10. Dominic Allen and Ashton Guay each scored six points for the Knights, with Jiang Peng Gao and Wyatt Trzaskos each scoring two. "It was a good night for us sharing the ball and playing good defense," Knights coach Larry Converse said. "Schroon Lake played a tough game. They are dealing with a lot of injuries right now, and they still came to play and showed a great effort." Eagles pull away from Cougars The Beekmantown varsity boys basketball team scored 30 second-half points to pull away for a 50-31 win over Northeastern Clinton Jan. 20. "We played a nice team game tonight," said Eagles coach Gary Castine. "We were focused and ready to battle. I think that was Andrew (VanNatten's) best all-around game this year, not because of the points (15), but because he played under control and was a leader. Josh Burgin added 12 points for the Eagles, with Nathan Parliament scoring six, Nate Sand six, Keith Parent four, Joshua Sand three, Peyton Viau two, and Riley Saroj two.
