Pop-up vax clinic for all coming to Oval YMCA Saturday

PLATTSBURGH | The Plattsburgh YMCA has teamed up with local pediatricians and New York State to offer a youth pop-up vaccination site at the Y on the Oval location Saturday, Dec. 18. Gov. Kathy Hochul helped announce the event Friday afternoon, saying it was one of more than 40 new pop-up sites in underserved areas across the state. "The winter surge is in full force, but we are not defenseless. We have the tools to fight this virus and its variants: Get vaccinated, get the booster and wear a mask," Gov. Hochul said as she announced the new sites and vaccination locations. "We will continue working with local partners to make vaccines, boosters and testing widely available as soon as possible so that all New Yorkers can protect themselves and their loved ones." Acting Health Commissioner Dr. Mary T. Bassett said "I am urging everyone to get fully vaccinated and boosted now, ahead of the holidays, as it is our best defense against the virus and its variants. By making a plan to visit one of these pop-ups that is convenient for you and your family, you are helping to keep your family and all New Yorkers safe. Remember, we should all prepare for the holidays by doing everything we can to keep the most vulnerable in our families and communities safe." In Clinton County, the Clinton County Health Department's Thursday clinic at Clinton Community College was named as one of the state's partnered sites, as well as a Saturday, Dec. 18 clinic at Northern Adirondack Middle/High School in Ellenburg Depot. That clinic will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., officials said. The Saturday clinic at the Y's newest location at 52 U.S. Oval will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. offering pediatric vaccines for children 5 and older, teens, initial vaccine shots and boosters. Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson doses will be available for adults. Pre-registration is not needed. Organizers said there will be sufficient staff present to process participants quickly. Children must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. The clinic was announced locally in partnership with Mountain View Pediatrics, Plattsburgh Primary Care Pediatrics and Plattsburgh Pediatrics and the New York State Department of Health. "We are excited to be hosting a vaccination clinic for ages 5+ this Saturday at our Y on the Oval location," the Plattsburgh YMCA said. "Whether you are looking to get your first dose or your booster you can get it here." Any new family to the YMCA that gets vaccinated will get a free week to the YMCA at any location. Y officials said they have also invited "Love on a leash" service dogs to join the event to help bring smiles to the younger faces. "Nothing like a friendly dog to join all the young kids coming out."
