Patriots win third straight Class C girls soccer title

PLATTSBURGH | The AuSable Valley Patriots won their third straight Section VII/Class C championship Oct. 28, defeating Northern Adirondack 7-0 at Plattsburgh High School. Addie Stanley and Lilley Keyser each scored three goals in the Patriot win, a performance well worth the wait for Keyser. "I worked hard to get back where I am and I could not have done it without my team — they have all encouraged me to get to where I am now," said Keyser, who dealt with an early-season injury and illness. "Tonight felt amazing," Keyser added. "Coach was telling me to give it 150-percent tonight and leave it all out on the field." Addie Stanley got the Patriots on the board early, taking a direct kick from just outside the penalty box and even with the six that deflected into the net for a 1-0 lead. "We wanted to play our game, pass around and look for the open player," said Stanley. "It feels so good to get this win — I love it. I am really excited and I hope we can get to the final four." Lilley Keyser added to the lead in the 18th minute, stealing the ball from an NAC player, turning toward goal and letting a shot fly from 25 yards out, finding the top shelf for a 2-0 lead. Reagan Schier then made the score 3-0 10 minutes later, rebounding a shot from Kaydence Hoehn that bounced off the crossbar. Schier also hit the crossbar, but got the shooter's bounce into the net. The Patriots kept the pace of play to their liking in the second half, with Addie Stanley taking a back pass from sister Jenna Stanley, faking out a defender, taking two dribbles and firing a low shot into the far post for a 4-0 lead. Keyser then scored her second of the game in the 61st minute on a Jenna Stanley assist, while Addie Stanley completed her hat trick in the 68th minute on a Keyser assist. The Bobcats best chance came in the 56th minute when Jasmyne Allen went out for a 50/50 that was deflected to the feet of Haley Hickey, whose shot was just wide of the near side post. Keyser then finished her hat trick for the Patriots in the 74th minute on a Hoehn assist. Allen had one save for the Patriots, while the defense in front of her controlled the flow of the game. "This is big because it is my first time playing in sectionals, and I think we had a lot of communication and were working well as a team," said left-back Brielle Laundree. "I am super excited to advance into the state tournament." "It has been a great year defensively because we have learned to communicate to each other on defense," added sweeper Brooklyn Douglass. "It works and that is what got us to where we are now. We want to make it all the way." Isabella Gilmore had a strong game for the Bobcats with 19 saves. The Patriots (12-4-0) will next play Tuesday, Nov. 2 at 5 p.m. at Plattsburgh High School against the Section X champion in the regional semifinals.
