CVAC girls XC: Nighthawks earn sweep

POINT AU ROCHE | The Peru varsity girls cross country team scored a trio of wins Sept. 14 over Beekmantown, Northeastern Clinton and Seton Catholic Sept. 14. Peru scored 15-point wins in all three matches, with a 15-49 score against Beekmantown and 15-50 wins over NCCS and Seton. In the other contested meet of the night, Beekmantown scored a 15-50 win over Seton. Faline Yang scored the individual win for the Knights, finishing in a time of 22:19. Peru runners were led by Ophelia Lancto, who placed second overall with a time of 22:37. Janice Dougherty was fourth for the Nighthawks (24.32), followed by Cadia Chamberlain in fifth (25:06), Rylee Chamberlain in sixth (25:08), Kearah Finlaw in seventh (25:55), and Remi Beauharnois in eighth (25:57). "Ophelia from Peru has gotten very good and has improved a lot," said Yang. "We were battling it out and were switching spots throughout the race. At the end of the race I really dug down deep. I'm glad I raced now because last year wasn't ideal for racing. I'm just glad that I can race head-to-head with my competitors and I can have them right there with me to race against." "The girls stayed together and pushed each other throughout the race," said Lancto. "I think we did really well overall throughout the race. It is really nice because we get to start and end with each other which is really different from last year. We have such a strong team and they are so good this year. It is just a fantastic experience." Alex Cone placed third for the Cougars (24:04), with Alexis Canning placing ninth (27:03) and Lindsay Williams 12th (28:34). Cameron Beware placed 10th for Beekmantown in a time of 27:20, with Raelin Ko 13th (28:35), Phoebe Eldredge 14th (30:35), and Katie Bishop 15th (31:08). "The course had a lot of hills, but I really enjoyed it an it was a really nice day," said Cone. "It is really refreshing getting back to running. I really missed it. I think it is already going really well. I can't wait to race more." "This is my home course and I know it really well with running it every day at practice," said Beware. Sentinels win pair The Ticonderoga varsity girls squad scored wins of 15-50 over AuSable Valley and Plattsburgh High Sept. 14 in the only two contested meets of the evening. While Gianna Coryea scored the win for the Hornets in a time of 22:24, the Sentinels took three of the next five positions, with Hannah Porter second (25:23), Katherin Moran fourth (29:12), and Aimee Parent fifth (29:13). Eighth-place Madeline Lender (35:15) and ninth-place Kim Wojick (36:32) rounded out the Sentinel's scoring five. Phoebe Bruso placed third for the Hornets in a time of 26:33, with Emma Pelkey led the Patriots in sixth place (29:40), followed by teammates Mya Bushey in seventh (34:45), and Maddie Perry 11th (39:19). Bombers top Chiefs, both win pair Samantha Damico led the field of runners at the Cadyville Recreation Park Sept. 14, running the course in a time of 19:44 while helping to lead Lake Placid to a pair of wins, including a 26-29 win over Saranac. Damico, third place Annie-Rose McCandish (22:34), fifth place Harley Cohen (23:22), and ninth place Lily Rother (23:37) each earned vital points for the Blue Bombers by placing in front of their nearest Saranac competition, as Sienna Boulds place second (20:37), Laura Denial fourth (22:39), Danielle Borner sixth (23:36), and Molly Lynch 10th (23:39). Molly Denis placed 11th for Saranac in 23:49). The Bombers also score a 23-33 win over Saranac Lake, who were led by Megan Wilson in seventh (23:30), Phoebe Peer in eighth (23:32), Sabine Denkenberger in 12th (24:06), Addison Ash 13th (25:04), and Nelle Aaron 15th (25:10). Saranac and Saranac Lake each scored 15-50 wins over Moriah/Boquet Valley.
