Westport receives significant grant

WESTPORT | The Town of Westport has been awarded a 2020 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) of $380,000 from the New York State Housing Trust Fund and the Office of Community Renewal for single-family housing rehabilitation projects and the replacement of a mobile home. Noting some of the ways this funding will benefit the Westport community, Supervisor Michael ("Ike") Tyler said, "We have been working hard to improve our wastewater and water filtration systems and protect our historic buildings. Helping low-income and elderly people keep their homes safe and sound is another part of the effort to make sure Westport remains a great place to live and work." The New York State Office of Community Renewal has awarded more than $14 million as part of this CDBG funding round for a variety of projects that address local affordable housing needs. These investments in home-ownership opportunities and home rehabilitation programs will contribute to community revitalization and improved quality of life for the working families of New York State. Although there are already some applicants in line for this funding, Westport will continue to take housing repair applications for this and future town programs. Applications can be obtained at the town hall or by calling the Housing Assistance Program of Essex County at 518-873-6888.
