New business makes diversity and inclusion its focus

PLATTSBURGH | Diversity, inclusion, and family that's what lies at the heart of Opulence Beaute. Opulence Beaute, located at 131 Cornelia St, is a new local beauty supply store. "Opulence Beaute, the way I would describe it, it's definitely your local beauty supply store and it offers more than just beauty supplies, it offers a service. It's family-owned so, I just want to build a connection to the community and make the community feel inclusion cause I believe Plattsburgh has become very diversified compared to what it was 17 years ago. So it's just giving everyone a feeling of inclusion, that everyone does matter, that everybody does count," Naromie Joseph, the owner of Opulence Beaute said. Opulence Beaute is named after what Joseph wants to have in a business. "Honestly, I was brainstorming for a while and I'm like, I just want to have a name that like is powerful but is also like, easy on the, like easy on the tongue, you understand," Joseph said, she went on to add that "beaute" alludes to her French background. Joseph, who is originally from New York City, is no stranger to the area. She received her associate degree from Clinton Community College in Business Administration and later went on to get a bachelor's degree from a university in Canada. Joseph has been back in the Plattsburgh area for about five years now. "My family's here," Joseph offered on why she chose to open her business in Plattsburgh, she went on to add, "Although it's a small town you're close to the border, you have a lot of, we have a lot of good stores here and you know, I like how you can build rapport easily here in our relationship with people." Joseph also mentioned that being in the Plattsburgh community gives her a sense of family with how friendly everybody is, and how everybody looks out for each other. Right now Opulence Beaute offers braiding, crocheting, and weaving as well as selling weaves, crochet, braid extensions, and products to maintain natural and styled hair. Joseph isn't just thinking about the grand opening of Opulence Beatue though, she's also thinking about the store's future. "In a time like now where everything is so uncertain, definitely want to see the longevity of the company, of us, growing. We also want to expand to not just, we are offering services to both females and males, but we actually want to have exclusive services for males, in sense getting the barber," stated Joseph. As far as timing goes, Joseph said the pandemic is what made her take this step, "It's always something that I wanted to do, but honestly the pandemic just put the battery in my back and gave me the courage that I needed to just take the leap." Opulence Beaute is set to have a grand opening on Sept. 25. Right now Opulence Beaute is taking appointments while they put the finishing touches on their new location. Regular business hours once fully open will be Tuesday through Friday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. with the Saturday hours still being decided. Opulence Beaute will be closed on Sundays and open on Mondays for appointments only. "We're family-oriented so that's like a big thing. We're not just some, you know, [a] major corporate company that's just trying to put up another storefront it's really, it comes from the heart and it's a passion," Joseph went on to add, "I just want to add my contribution to our community."
