Former Vt. Art & Craft Festival puts down roots, sets up tents in Lake George

LAKE GEORGE | The 42nd Annual Southern Vermont Art and Craft Festival will never happen. The festival moved down the road to Bennington after 35 successful years at Hildene Meadows in Manchester in 2013 when the site was converted to agricultural use. After six years in Bennington, the show has now moved to Lake George at the Charles R. Wood Park, just a short walk from Million Dollar Beach and the lake. Organizer Tim Cianciola, of Craftproducers, is happy with the relocation. "After we left Hildene, the show never returned to its former glory. Meanwhile, Lake George enjoys the large population of the Capital area, who appreciate craftwork. The influx of tourists should guarantee a solid turnout of craft aficionados to support the exhibitors. We're psyched," he said. The newly minted Lake George Art and Craft Festival will feature more than 100 artists, artisans, and specialty food makers including New York Wine producers and distillers. There will be a great variety of food booths: wood-fired pizza, empañadas, grilled chicken wraps, burgers, fried pickles, lemonade, smoothies, Jamaican jerk chicken, rice, and more. Adirondack Brewery will serve a selection of beer from its handcrafted beer menu. To add to the festive ambiance, live music will be played throughout the day. With 40 years of promoting art and craft festivals, Craftproducers is known for the quality of their exhibitions and the level of craftsmanship. Cianciola is proud of the reputation. "No trinkets or tchotchkes," he exclaims, "Just honest, handcrafted excellence. No imports, either. You will meet the actual artists at our shows." The First-Ever Lake George Art and Craft Festival will take place at the Charles R. Wood Park, 17 WestBrook Rd., Lake George, July 30 through Aug. 1, and is a rain-or-shine event.
