'Food Truck Fridays at the Pond' returns to Brant Lake July 2

BRANT LAKE | When "Food Truck Fridays on the Pond" was launched in 2019, it was envisioned as a modest effort to prompt people to gather in Brant Lake once a week to share a meal — but it soon turned into a regional attraction in the southern Adirondacks. With friends telling friends, local newspaper advertising, and posts on social media, Food Truck Fridays grew within weeks into a convivial crowd routinely numbering 1,400 people, on some occasions exceeding 3,300. After a year off due to the pandemic, the weekly gathering returns to Brant Lake for this summer beginning Friday, July 2, from 4 p.m. or so to 8 p.m., at the town of Horicon Community Center on Route 8, Brant Lake. This community gathering bonds residents, neighbors from area towns as well as visitors from afar. It features 10 to 15 food trucks, children's activities and contests with prizes, live music performances, games for youth and adults, and booths staffed by local organizations and entrepreneurs. This year's Food Truck Fridays on the Pond runs from Friday, July 2 through August 27 with a different band or musician each week. The final 2021 edition of the small-town party will feature fireworks over the nearby Mill Pond. Rotating food selections from the four-wheeled eateries include Mediterranean, Italian and Mexican specialties; savory fried fish; organic wood-fired pizza; barbecued meats; classic hamburgers or macaroni and cheese dishes; as well as snack offerings and refreshing ice cream, Horicon Town Supervisor Sylvia Smith said. "Food Truck Fridays offers good food, good music, and good company," she said. "People love to have a night out and chat with friends." Bernie Hill of E-Z Marine will be ferrying people in his boat across the Mill Pond, where they can enjoy the ambiance at The Hub, a destination for road and mountain bicyclists, as well as people seeking creative short-order food and craft beverages. Music runs the gamut of genres — including rock and roll, Americana roots, jazz, or country and western, and the live performances often inspire people to dance. "It's exciting this year because everyone is looking forward to it," Smith said. "And it's a great way to let people know what we have going on here in Horicon."
