CVPH expands visitation

PLATTSBURGH | Patients can enjoy longer visits, and in some circumstances additional visitors, as part of a revised welcoming policy now in effect at the University of Vermont Health Network–Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital. Visitation at the hospital is now taking place from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. seven days a week, more than doubling the previous time of 4 hours a day. CVPH has also lowered the age requirement from 18 down to 12 years of age or older. Other highlights of the policy include: -An increase from 2 support persons to 4 support persons at a time for end-of-life situations when the patient is not expected to leave the hospital setting. -Patients who are COVID-19-positive, suspected of having COVID-19 or are under quarantine may see 2 vaccinated visitors, up from 1 vaccinated visitor. -Two support persons at a time may visit a Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) resident. Previously, 1 support person at a time could visit with a resident. Appointments are no longer required to visit with residents. However, visiting hours in SNF remain 9 a.m.-11 a.m. daily. -Inpatient psychiatry visitation hours remain 2 p.m.-6 p.m. daily. Visitation also remains the same for the Emergency Department, including the age requirement of 18 years or older. The welcoming policy reflects updated guidance from the New York State Department of Health. While COVID-19 restrictions were lifted this week in light of the state's continued vaccination efforts, hospital officials are also reminding visitors that COVID-19 precautions remain in effect in health care settings across New York to ensure the safety of everyone. That means anyone entering the hospital or other CVPH facilities will be screened for symptoms of the virus and required to wear a mask that covers the nose and mouth while in the building.
