Local embarks on silver-screen journey

CHAMPLAIN | Ryan Babbie is a 23-year-old with a plan. On June 26 he will be releasing the first film from his production company, Babbie Productions. Starting a production company wasn't always Babbie's plan. In fact, he went to school for something completely different. "Something different, I mean I went off to wrestling school back in 2019, and wrestling is about the entertainment of course and it's fake. I started thinking, you know, about other alternatives because wrestling, it started to hurt my body...," Babbie explained. Babbie went on to talk about how he came to an agreement with his girlfriend to start jotting down creative ideas as a way to figure out what the next step he wanted to take was. That's when he came up with the idea for Babbie Productions. "What is the sense of me writing down something and then if I'm not going to get it published, why can't I just turn my story into a movie and I don't want to sound like selfish or anything like my story, my movie, that's not what it is. It's my story let's put it for everybody to enjoy," said Babbie. The road to producing his first film wasn't as easy as it sounds. Initially, Babbie knew nothing about cameras and production, as a result, he has been learning on his feet. This hasn't slowed Babbie down at all, he's been taking it in stride and powering through any roadblocks that get in the way. The release of his first film, "A Smalltown Murder" is just the start for Babbie Productions. As of right now he has two more movies in the works "Hide or Die" which is slated to come out in October 2021 and "Colony" which is set to be released in July of 2022. Babbie also has big dreams for the future of the production company he says, "Big. I want, I want people to notice." Babbie went onto mention that he would love one day if a celebrity, such as Adam Sandler, saw one of his films and wanted to meet him. Eventually one day Babbie would like to be able to do big-budget productions and even possibly go to film school. Right now though, it's not about the money for Babbie, it's about the entertainment. "It's not about the like money right now, and I don't think it will ever be about money. It's just more of me having fun with what I want to do. So for right now, it's more about you know, having the people be entertained and not everybody is going to love my movie. I can't please everyone, but you have to watch it to hate it," stated Babbie. While Babbie may be new to this endeavor, he certainly isn't alone. From friends appearing in his first film and helping turn his project from a dream to a reality, to his family offering use of their summer house for the premiere, Babbie has tons of support. "All the support gives me the energy to keep going," Babbie said. The support doesn't end there though, the Babbie Production Facebook Page has a following of over 150 people. "It seems like a lot of the locals want to really watch this movie," added Babbie. Babbie went on to say, "We don't want to have a negative impact, we like to have a positive impact on all the viewers that watch us." "A Smalltown Murder" will be available for purchase starting June 26 for about $2. Anybody that watches my film, or films, or shows, or anybody that has followed me through this journey and has supported me we're all in this together," said Babbie. As for now, Babbie is just going to see what happens he says, "We'll see where it takes us because now we're on the road and I just want to keep going."
