Plattsburgh man to serve five years for city drug sales

PLATTSBURGH | A Plattsburgh man is now serving five years in prison as a second-felony offender after pleading guilty in a 2020 drug bust that disrupted local cocaine sales and distribution. Clinton County District Attorney Andrew Wylie said Michael Malseptic was recently sentenced by Judge William Favreau to a five-year determinate sentence with three years post-release supervision. The 25-year-old was also fined $3,000 and ordered to pay $375 in court fees and surcharges. He must also forfeit $1,370 in cash that was seized during the execution of a search warrant at his former Flaglar Drive residence. Malseptic was taken into custody in late April 2020 after Clinton County Sheriff's deputies executed the warrant in connection with a lengthy investigation into local drug sales. At the time of the warrant, authorities discovered Malseptic with heroin and more than one-half ounce of cocaine, leading to his arrest and subsequent indictment by a grand jury on three counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance relating to the quantity and intent to distribute cocaine and an additional count of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance relating to the heroin possession. Represented by Public Defender Hilary Rogers, Malseptic later pleaded guilty to the three higher-level felony possession charges. He recently reappeared before Judge Favreau for sentencing and is now serving his time at Downstate Correctional Facility. District Attorney Wylie, who prosecuted the case, said the arrest was the result of ongoing investigations into Clinton County drug sales led by the Clinton County Sheriff's Department and other state and local law enforcement agencies.
