Longtime judge turned clerk retires with high regard

PLATTSBURGH | After more than two decades of dedicated service to the Town of Plattsburgh, former town justice-turned elected clerk, Kevin Patnode has officially retired. The well-known former high school history teacher is the town's longest-serving justice-presiding over roughly 180,000 cases with no ethical violations and just one case overturned. After retiring from the bench, Patnode's desire to serve the town and its residents continued-prompting a subsequent successful run for office as town clerk. Not only did he join the clerk's office during a challenging time with transitioning the Plattsburgh Community Mausoleum, he soon bolstered the office's services and hours to include added Thursday evening availability before town board meetings. But with recent health battles, Patnode made the difficult decision to resign his post as town clerk. "Personally I am beyond thankful that he is alright. However, he has decided to resign from his post as town clerk. I am reminded of a quote by Michael J. Foxx "Acceptance doesn't mean resignation; it means understanding that something is what it is and that there's got to be a way through it," Plattsburgh Town Supervisor Michael Cashman said May 6 following the town board's unanimous approval to appoint Deputy Town Clerk Katie Kalluche to serve the remainder of his term. "Please join me in thanking Kevin for his tremendous service to the Town of Plattsburgh." Kalluche was immediately sworn into office May 6 and is already settling into her new role. "A heartfelt thanks to Katie for taking on the role and responsibilities. Katie is a wonderful addition to the team," Cashman said. "No doubt you will find her skills, talents, and commitment to public service inexhaustible. I would ask for patience during the transition, but be assured she is already hitting the ground running."
