City approves multiple construction projects

PLATTSBURGH | The April 15 Common Council meeting of the City of Plattsburgh was a busy one, with 37 resolutions to be voted on and two adoptions of local laws. A majority of the items on the agenda had to do with construction projects for around the city. The award of the Beekman Street Design phase was approved, and the authorization of the construction phase for Cogan Avenue Reconstruction Project was approved as well. A City of Plattsburgh Annual Sidewalk Improvements Program was approved. The city plans to replace the sidewalk by Broad Street and Cornelia Street down to Prospect Avenue. The goal is to eventually replace all the sidewalks in this city, but due to costs, they are tackling them in sections. Similar to their approach for the street resurfacing, which the revitalization of this project was voted on and approved last night. The city also voted on the demolition of the Anderson Building, at the city beach, last night. Counselor McFarlin made the point during the discussion on this matter that this is a project that needs to be done, the building was previously damaged by a tree falling on it. Mayor Rosenquest mentioned during the discussion that he wants to demolish the Northend Bathhouse, which will be brought back up at a later date. The council voted to approve the demolition of the Anderson Building. Along with road construction, there will also be numerous water projects happening. The design phase for waterline reconstruction on Maryland Road, New York Road, and South Peru Street were all voted on and approved. The Lake Champlain Basin Program Illicit Discharge and Elimination Study was approved for phase two. Disinfection and odor control upgrades were approved as part of a clean water program. The Common Council did experience some technical difficulties during the April 15 meeting, but a majority of the meeting can be found on the City of Plattsburgh YouTube channel.
