Area's 'fully vaccinated' rate 50% higher than statewide

NORTHEASTERN N.Y. | During the two-week period ending March 29, the number of residents of Warren, Essex, Clinton, and Hamilton counties inoculated with COVID-19 vaccine continued at a fast pace that is leading New York, according to figures provided by the state Department of Health. The four above counties are the primary readership area of Sun Community News in upstate New York. As of 7 a.m. March 29, the percentage of residents of all ages inoculated with either one or two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, as reported by the state, were as follows: Warren County, 37.1%, — an increase from 31.2% two weeks ago; Essex County, 39.6% — up from 33.1% on March. 22; Clinton County, 39.7% — an increase from 33.5% on March 22, and Hamilton County, 57 percent — up from 52.0% on that date. These figures are higher than anywhere else in the Capital Region or most all counties in the state, where typical one-or-more dose inoculation rates are in the 25% to 33 percent range, while a number of the counties remain in the low twenties percentage-wise. As of 7 a.m. March 29, the state reported that in Warren County, 23,857 residents had been administered at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine (an increase of 3,815 in two weeks) and 13,770 residents had received two (representing an increase of 50%); in Essex County, 14,758 residents had at least one dose (a two-week increase of 4,161) and 9,179 residents had two (an increase of 36.8%); in Clinton County, 32,030 residents had at least one dose (a two-week increase of 4,963) and 21,014 had two (an increase of 34.8%); and in Hamilton County, 2,540 residents had at least one dose (a two-week increase of 233) and 1,600 residents had two (an increase of 15.1% of those completing their inoculation series over two weeks). The percentage of county residents reported to be fully vaccinated as of March 29 is as follows: Warren County, 21.4%; Essex County 24.6%; Clinton County, 26%, and Hamilton County, 41.5%. Throughout this region of these four counties (the readership area of The Sun), 45,805 have completed their vaccination series as of March 29, or 24.5% of the total population in Warren, Essex, Clinton, and Hamilton Counties. This percentage of fully inoculated residents is 50 percent higher than New York State's completed vaccination percentage of 16.3%. It's important to note that these figures represent residents of all ages and that most all individuals under 16 are not yet eligible to receive a vaccine — so inoculation rates of those qualifying for vaccination are far higher than the above data would imply.
