Nova Bus nets first U.S. electric bus order

PLATTSBURGH | In an exciting new contract, Nova Bus has received its first U.S. order for electric LFSe+ buses. The 15 long-range electric buses will be heading to Milwaukee County Transit System upon completion. "We look forward to introducing the Nova Bus LFSe+ buses to the Milwaukee community," Martin Larose, vice president, and general manager at Nova Bus said in announcing the contract March 11. "These electric buses, which represent the perfect pairing of our proven expertise with the latest innovations in clean and sustainable technologies, is the perfect choice for the MCTS' East-West Bus Rapid Transit project, an innovative project, first-of-its-kind in Wisconsin, that will efficiently connect commuters through downtown Milwaukee and expand the sustainable transit footprint in the state." The North Country Chamber of Commerce hailed the order as an exciting new development for the Plattsburgh manufacturer. "This is news we have been waiting for. This is the arrival of the future," Chamber President Garry Douglas said. "The national and global market is clearly starting the transition to electric buses and Nova Bus along with its battery technology partners at BAE have positioned our area to be a very important part of this exciting new development. This places us not only at the heart of the changing transit market but at the center of the evolving clean energy, green technology economy. It all starts with the first order and that start is here." Douglas congratulated Nova Bus "and their BAE partners for this historic order, and we thank them for choosing Plattsburgh as the place for this new production. It is testament to their years of technology development and to the talent of our area workforce and suppliers." Sen. Chuck Schumer said "Nova Bus's state-of-the-art electric buses will transform public transportation in Milwaukee, improving reliability, service, safety, and capacity, while helping the environment at the same time. I'm especially proud that the electric buses will be built right here in New York, solidifying the state as a leader in manufacturing clean energy and transportation technologies." U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik also applauded the local contract saying "Nova Bus is an important part of the North country manufacturing industry and economy, and their newly awarded contract with the Milwaukee County Transit System is a testament to skilled employees and operation." With a fleet of 370 clean-diesel buses and a team of 1,100 drivers, mechanics and administrative staff, the MCTS provides nearly 29 million rides each year as the largest transit agency in Wisconsin and primary transit provider for Milwaukee County. Plattsburgh Town Supervisor Michael Cashman called the contract part of Plattsburgh's green future and congratulated Nova Bus for their premier technology and efforts. "The strength the Nova Bus state-of-the-art technology paired with their talented workforce here in Plattsburgh is once again being recognized as world-class industry leader," he said. "The Town of Plattsburgh being a designated Clean Energy Community by NYSERDA values, and celebrates developments of this magnitude occurring right here in town. The green economy and technology is not a fad. Nova Bus is already recognized for their premier product. This is the next generation.
