Warrensburg pursues expansion of sewer district

WARRENSBURG | Sewer lines in the town of Warrensburg are to extend to two areas of town that have not previously had municipal sewer service, according to a pending proposal. On Feb. 10, the Warrensburg Town Bard approved joining Warren County in an application for a state grant to fund an engineering study on expanding the Warrensburg Sewer District. The current plan is to extend the district up Burdick Avenue to Skylark Lane in the southern end of the hamlet, and up Sanford St. to Jenni Jill Drive in the northwest area. The extensions are to provide municipal sewer services to 13 households that now have private septic systems. The town's goal, Supervisor Kevin Geraghty said, is to obtain $50,000 in funding for the study. A public hearing on the proposed expansion is to be held at 4 p.m. Feb. 24. In other business accomplished at the Feb. 10 meeting, the board endorsed the town's Public Employer Health Emergency Plan that was drafted by Geraghty's secretary, Dani Oliver. The plan is to be posted on the town website, and is to be formally adopted at the town March 10 meeting, Geraghty said. "We are ahead of the curve on this issue," he said. Wbg. to boost its effort to preserve Thurman's history The board voted to hire Sylvia VanGuilder of Warrensburg to work with town Historian Sandi Parisi with the tasks of inventorying and organizing the documents, photographs, and artifacts acquired by the town from the John B. Thurman Historical Society after the organization dissolved. VanGuilder is to work up to 16 hours per week on the project, at a rate of $12 per hour. The board also decided to increase Parisi's salary while she is accomplishing these additional duties. The amount of the increase is to be determined by Geraghty. The town board also voted to allocate $423 to the town's traditional ski program at Gore Mountain for this year. Town government sells 11-acre parcel to local resident Additionally, the board authorized the sale of about 11 acres of land, previously logged by the town, to Michael McKinney of Alden Avenue. Geraghty said that for months, McKinney has wanted to buy some town-owned property around his house to provide a buffer between his home and adjacent properties. The board set the sale price at $500 per acre, a sum which Geraghty said was low, but reasonable. All town board members approved the pending sale except for Rich Larkin, who abstained. The transaction is subject to a permissive referendum, so the sale would go forward unless a local person files a petition within 30 days that calls for bringing the issue to a public vote. Town aids Ash Anand's restaurant venture Also, the board passed a resolution requesting the state Liquor Authority to waive their 30-day filing requirement for a liquor license application submitted by Ash Anand and the Lotus Companies. Anand's enterprise seeks to serve alcoholic beverages at the Bond 1786, the restaurant at the former Merrill-Magee Inn. The restaurant may be open to the public as soon as late March. Also, the town board approved an agreement for the town to maintain the grounds of Saint Cecilia's Cemetery for an annual stipend of $2,500. In addition, the board endorsed advertising for bids on a wood chipper and road sweeper — which together would cost about $260,000 — as well as a single-axle plow truck, estimated to cost about $500,000. The board also is selling a 1985 John Deere 750 tractor and a 2006 Ford F-350 diesel chassis. Both are to be advertised on www.govdeals.com where bids can be submitted.
