Family demands justice after elderly man dies from attack

CHESTERFIELD | George Bailey's family is demanding justice and asking anyone with information about the local grandfather's violent attack to contact authorities. The elderly Chesterfield man passed away Nov. 23, roughly a week after a late-night armed home invasion left him bloodied and beaten. New York State Police said the attack happened on Nov. 15 just before midnight when two men barged into Bailey's Port Douglas Road home and threatened the homeowners with a gun. The men viciously assaulted Bailey before they fled with an undisclosed amount of money. The following day, his family said the ordeal left the longtime local resident terrified and seriously injured, asking for privacy as he recovered and calling for answers in the shocking robbery. On Nov. 23, his family announced the tragic news of his death. "It is with great sorrow that I announce the passing of our father, husband, grandfather, brother, son...George Arthur Bailey...as a result of complications from an assault that occurred on 11/15/2020 in his home," his loved ones said. The family is asking for privacy while they now grieve and prepare memorials for their family patriarch and are calling for justice in the case. His loved ones are pleading for anyone with information about the assault to come forward and contact State Police. Authorities somberly confirmed Bailey's death on Nov. 24 as the investigation continued. An official cause and manner of death have yet to be determined. State Police Troop B spokesperson Trooper Jennifer Fleishman told Sun Community News Bailey's cause of death is pending a formal autopsy slated for Nov. 25. As the sad news of his death began to circulate, family and friends reacted with devastating shock, recalling the beloved man with fond remembrances. Authorities have not disclosed further information about the suspects or the crime itself as the investigation continues. More details will be released as the case progresses.
