Nighthawks rally in Lake semis

BEEKMANTOWN | The Peru Nighthawks rallied from two goals down against the Beekmantown girls varsity soccer team for a 3-2 win Nov. 11, moving on to face Northeastern Clinton in the Section VII Lake tournament finals Nov. 14, 5 p.m. in Champlain. Nighthawks rally After Emma McCasland and Danielle Dyke scored in the opening 40 minutes to give Beekmantown a 2-0 lead, Peru started their comeback almost immediately off the second half whistle as McKenzie Brown was able to score 21 seconds into the frame to cut the Eagles lead to 2-1. In the 64th minute, Rylie Lukens stepped up and drilled a direct kick into the net to tie the score at 2-2 for the Nighthawks, setting eh stage for Bruce to net the game-winner on a scramble in front of the Beekmantown net just two minutes later. Kayleigh Jackson registered an assist for the Nighthawks, as did Kiera Regan for the Eagles. Bri Brousseau made eight saves for the Nighthawks, while Macayla Scofield made five saves for the Eagles. Cougars get lone goal Leah Coloumbe scored the lone goal for Northeastern Clinton as a Cougars earned a 1-0 win over Plattsburgh High. Abby Racine needed to make just one save to help the defense to a shutout win, while Mackenzie Lawfer made six saves and Emma Whalen 10 for the Hornets, as the Cougars held a 17-1 advantage in shots on net.
