Voting in person? Be prepared to show ID and proof of residency

MIDDLEBURY | Ann Webster, Middlebury's town clerk, said residents can still register to vote online by Sunday, Nov 1. If you meet the deadline you will be included on the checklist at the polls in Middlebury (olvr.vermont.gov). "If you miss this deadline, or you do not appear on the checklist, you may register to vote on Election Day at the polls," according to Webster. "Be prepared to show ID and proof of Middlebury residency. You may have to confirm residency if your voter registration was challenged due to undeliverable mail returned to us during the Primary Election." Webster noted that the Middlebury Town Clerk's Office staff has been available by telephone or email to assist most voters with their election questions and concerns. As of 5 p.m. on Thursday, Oct 29, her staff will be setting up the polls and preparing for the election. "We cannot guarantee that we will be available to take your phone calls or respond to emails as quickly as you may wish, but we encourage you to please leave a message. 802-388-8100 X 211, 212, or 213," she noted. "If emailing, it is best to copy both awebster@townofmiddlebury.org & mwright@townofmiddlebury.org. We will do our best to respond to you." The Middlebury Town Clerk's Office is no longer automatically mailing a ballot to all new voters whose registrations processed, Webster noted. "If you have not received your ballot for any reason you should plan to come to the polls to vote in person. We have currently processed over 3,000 ballots, so we are hoping that voters will have no trouble socially distancing at the polls. You may bring your own pen, but disposable pencils will be available for marking your ballot. Wearing a mask is required to enter the polling place. If you are unable to wear a mask, inquire at the front door and two election officials will assist you with curbside voting." The ballot drop box is still available outside the Middlebury Town Office door closest to the Ilsley Library. Ballots may be deposited any time up to Election Day, but we suggest if you want to drop off your voted ballot on Election Day to come to the polls. Ballots sealed in the signed certificate envelope may be dropped off without going through the polls. If you have received a ballot and plan to vote in person at the polls, bring your ballot with you. If you did not receive the issued ballot or lost your ballot you will still be able to vote in person at the polls but will have to sign an affidavit indicating that you have not cast any other ballot in this election. Where to vote: General Election, Tuesday, Nov. 3, at the Middlebury Recreation Center Gymnasium, at 154 Creek Rd., in Middlebury. Polls open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
