U.S. Mint honors Vermont's M-B-R National Historical Park

WOODSTOCK | The U.S. Mint of the Department of the Treasury is honoring the Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park in Woodstock this fall season with a three 25-cent coin set as part of its newest release in a series honoring the Vermont park. Three of the U.S. Mint's four minting centers have contributed coins to the nickel-copper set. The new Vermont quarters weigh 5.670 grams apiece. According to the U.S. Mint's website, the set includes an uncirculated quarter from the Philadelphia Mint (bearing the "P" mark), an uncirculated quarter from the Denver Mint (bearing the "D" mark), and a proof quarter from the San Francisco Mint (bearing the "S" mark). The West Point Mint (bearing the "W" mark) did not contribute to the Vermont set because it only manufactures gold and silver commemoratives. According to the U.S. Mint, the Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park is the fourth of five sets released in 2020 and the 54th overall in its America the Beautiful Quarters® Program. The U.S. Mint describes the coins as follows: "The reverse (tails) design depicts a young girl completing the planting of a Norway spruce seedling near an established tree, continuing the life cycle of the forest. The child represents the conservationist, seeking to maintain a sustainable forest for future enjoyment and education. The inscription 'Land Stewardship' anchors the design. Additional inscriptions are 'Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller', 'Vermont', '2020', and the Latin phrase 'E Pluribus Unum' (Out of Many, One)." Today's national park was the boyhood home of conservationist George Perkins Marsh. Later, the estate was owned by Frederick Billings, and then by Laurance S. and Mary French Rockefeller. The Rockefellers eventually transferred the heritage property in Woodstock to the American people. The site, the only national park site in Vermont, was established in 1992. It is one of the nation's smallest national parks.
