My name is Tedra Cobb, and I am running to be your next Congresswoman.

I've lived here in Northern New York for over 30 years. I went to college at SUNY Potsdam, and soon after, I married my husband, Scott. We chose to make this community our home because Northern New Yorkers share the values that we hold - trust, honesty, hard work, and a deep reliance on one another. I chose to run for Congress because we need those values in Washington. Over the last several years, I have watched as the hateful and hyper-partisan rhetoric that permeates Washington has affected our communities and this race for Congress. Instead of articulating a plan for the middle class, lawmakers have spent their time fighting with the other side of the aisle and often their own party, too. Instead of discussing the issues that matter to working families, lawmakers have spent their time hurling hateful insults that further divide us. If you elect me, I'll be different. I have spent my entire adult life putting the interests of Northern New York first. I've watched as people here have worked for each other, for the greater good, without regard to any political agenda because serving each other is what we do. I started my public service career as a volunteer firefighter, and that experience taught me a lot about serving others. When the alarm rang, we didn't stop to ask whether the residents of the burning home were Democrats or Republicans. We just put the fire out. Twenty years ago, with other dedicated health professionals, I started a community health agency. We provided preventative screenings for health conditions like cancer and diabetes. We never asked a person in search of medical care if they were a Democrat or a Republican; we just helped them. The agency continues to do the same now. On the St. Lawrence County Legislature, for eight years, I worked with Democrats and Republicans. We worked together to pass a tough ethics law to ensure transparency in local government. I brought Democrats and Republicans together so we could pass meaningful legislation that lowered the cost of prescription drugs for the uninsured and underinsured. While I had my disagreements with colleagues from both sides of the aisle, together, we put disagreement aside and solved problems for our community. Unfortunately, in Washington, it seems everything is divisive, regardless of how big the crisis. The hateful rhetoric prevents compromise and progress. And, the constant vilification is not only poisoning our politics but our public discourse, too. We stand at a fork in the road. We can choose the status quo and the stalemate in Washington -- or we can choose to bring our North Country values to Washington and be an active voice in our future. I believe we must choose action. Elect me; I will fight for quality and affordable healthcare for every American. I believe the best way to achieve that goal is through a Medicare public option. Medicare is a program we know and a program we love. I believe you deserve to have a choice in your healthcare plan; providing a public option would afford you that choice. Elect me; I will protect Social Security and Medicare for future generations. I will never vote to cut a dime from Medicare or Social Security. I will not vote to raise the retirement age, and I will always ensure North Country seniors can retire with dignity. Elect me; our brave men and women serving at Fort Drum and their families deserve a representative who will fight for them and choose our soldiers over our enemies. Elect me; I will work with anyone from any party to address the COVID19 pandemic and the economic fallout this virus left in its wake. After eight months, the Federal government still hasn't produced a realistic and consistent response, one that is driven by science and public health. My top priority in Washington will be to ensure we control this virus and help North Country businesses, schools, and local governments recover and thrive.
