Two Covid cases hit Essex County government

ELIZABETHTOWN |Two cases of Covid-19 in Essex County government appear to have been contained, after health officials took aggressive action to make sure the disease didn't spread further, Supervisors Chair Shaun Gillilland said at the Sept. 21 meeting. ."Public health did a great job of tracking and tracing," Gillilland said. "The protocols that were in place prevented us from having to throw a whole lot of people into quarantine." The two cases, in the social services and probation departments, were isolated cases and not related to the Essex Center nursing home next door to the county courthouse complex, Gillilland said. Still, the news of Covid in the workplace is always unsettling. "It was scary," Gillilland said. "It's what an employer always worries about. But this really drove home to the workforce the importance of being safe." Aside from the Essex Center, where a surge of Covid cases has still not been fully contained, the county has not been severely impacted by the coronavirus, in part because of its relative isolation and in part because officials were early to respond with guidance and protocols to prevent its spread. The protocols include masks, sanitization, frequent cleaning and provisions that allow people So even as the Adirondacks is having one of its busiest travel seasons in memory, supervisors say, Covid has not gained a toehold in the community.
