CCC set to finish Phase I of renovations

PLATTSBURGH | Clinton Community College is ready to finish phase one of its long-awaited renovation project, both under budget and ahead of schedule despite COVID-19 setbacks. President Ray DiPasquale said modernizing the historic building was long-overdue and will lay the foundation for CCC to explore their full potential. In the first foray into the future of education, the Institute for Advanced Manufacturing has allowed for area businesses to train their employees with state-of-the-art technology. Now, the remodel of the original Moore Building - once a famous hotel - serves to bring the rest of the campus up to speed. "So, you think about $28 million worth of renovations - but this one is the most interesting, the Champlain Hotel. The 1800s history - four presidents that hung out here, all the history that comes with it. And what we're doing is preserving it," said DiPasquale. "AES has been a wonderful team - they're managing the project. This was the decision of the board, a great decision, and they are nothing but professionals to the Nth degree. They're as good as you get." In utilizing local contractors like AES, he said they are able to work with people who have preexisting knowledge of the building. Rather than spending the time to familiarize people with the layout, many of those working on the renovations have known the building for years. Surprisingly enough, Board Chairman and Clinton County Sheriff David Favro said that even COVID wasn't able to derail the project. By the state not allowing students on campus for a time, they were able to make up for lost progress after work was forced to stop for approximately a month beginning in late March. Favro said fortunately there were no huge surprises as they moved through Phase 1 of the project - set to officially finish this month. The key was good communication throughout. The students, faculty, staff, and those working on the renovations were all able to coordinate in a mostly seamless manner, he said. Many of the problems which often plague such projects were absent, as everyone in the CCC community came together for a common goal, Favro said. With so much going right in Phase 1, Favro said they have high hopes that the next phase will go just as smoothly - as the college strives to not only be an invaluable resource for the region as a whole but to attract other future-facing projects in the years to come. "The number one thing that I've said forever, whether it comes to international wars, national problems, politics, whatever you can think of - is poor communication," Favro said. "With this, it worked out well, and we're moving up in the schedule, because of good communication."
