Amesite brings advanced remote learning to Peru

PLATTSBURGH | When Peru Superintendent Dr. Tom Palmer attended a recent web seminar, he met Dr. Ann Marie Sastry, founder, and owner of Amesite. An AI-based distance learning platform, Amesite was approved for purchase by CVES BOCES in what is now the company's first foray into New York education. As a result, the platform became even more affordable for Peru. While Zoom and Skype have become household names by now, Amesite's goal is to go beyond traditional remote learning platforms in order to keep students engaged and interested in learning from home. Sastry said Amesite is unmatched in the world of online learning, not only in its interactive design but also in keeping students' data secure. "No one should have to trade their personal data to get an education. We have the strongest compact with our users in the industry – we do not sell user data, or let third parties look at it," she said. "We only use data for one thing: to improve learning. We believe that other software companies should be taking this stance, and we are leading with our principles." Technology experts have expressed concern about the security of traditional platforms, many of which allow third parties to collect or even sell the user's data. With so many distractions for a student taking classes at home, Sastry said it is up to businesses like hers to compete for their attention. If they fail to do so, students will simply not get the education they deserve. "We have always believed that a learning experience has to compete for attention – we really cannot expect to trap learning in bad internet experiences, and then expect kids to give it their attention over social media or games," said Sastry. "COVID-19 pressure tested internet solutions, and education did not come out ahead. We have always focused on the user experience, and because of that we were able to get customers set up quickly, and address the key need they had: greater engagement." The AI, or Artificial Intelligence, aspect of Amesite brings up-to-date information to students in a way that traditional learning isn't able to, she said. Oftentimes, students are expected to study with textbooks that are several years old and which possibly contain out-of-date information. With Amesite, educators have the ability to provide their students with fresh information daily from qualified sources that many schools already pay for. "Connecting the real world to education is essential. We use artificial intelligence to bring information to the platform from qualified sources, and also use AI to improve engagement throughout the learning process. Each learner is unique, and having the capability to deliver what each one needs is essential." Sastry said she is excited to be working with Peru and CVES BOCES, and is ready to assist them every step of the way as they enter unknown territory this coming fall. The lack of solutions that have the tech capability – streaming video, video conferencing, calendar integration – has made moving online a nightmare for many institutions, she said. Aimsite strives to make everything a smooth experience for both students and educators, solving many of the frustrating issues that plagued traditional software. "All of the tech is on a single, easy-to-use platform. Also, loading courses has been painful, because of poorly-thought-out user interfaces. We built our platform to be easy to use from day one. We did that, interestingly, by using sophisticated coding techniques. We say in software – if it's easy to build, it's hard to use. And if it's easy to use, it's hard to build. Well, we put enormous effort into building a platform that is easy to use, to make sure that everyone can get a good learning experience online, and get access to education."
