Parade salutes Saranac graduates

SARANAC | While the end of their senior year may not have gone as planned, the local community didn't want the accomplishments of Saranac Central graduates to go unnoticed. So in an inspirational display of support, the Class of 2020 was led on a community parade June 6 escorted by local firefighters, families, teachers, law enforcement and local representatives. Dozens of vehicles adorned in red and white lined Morrisonville Elementary School Saturday morning as students and parents safely gathered to start the parade that led them through Schuyler Falls, Cadyville, Dannemora and Saranac, ending at the High School where each student was greeted by personalized signs recognizing their senior year. Firefighters from the Saranac, Cadyville, Morrisonville and Dannemora fire departments helped coordinate the festivity and were joined by members of the New York State Police, Customs and Border Protection, Assemblyman Billy Jones and Congresswoman Elise Stefanik. Each student, escorted by their parents, were greeted with carnations and cheers from community members as many lined the roadway along the route to show their support. Jones applauded the effort and social-distancing measures that helped make the celebration possible. "It's nice to see the community come together for something like this and that we can still safely make these celebrations happen," the state representative said as he congratulated students and their families. Nearly 100 students are expected to graduate from Saranac Central School District later this month.
