Essex County Fair postponed to 2021

WESTPORT | The annual celebration of Essex County agriculture will not be held this year. After the surrounding Clinton, Franklin, and Addison County (Vermont) fairs had announced they would not be taking place, the board members of the Essex County Fair voted June 1 to postpone the annual agricultural exhibition and fair until 2021. "It was definitely a tough decision," said Scott Christan of the fair board. "It affects a lot of people, but in the end, we had to think about the safety and welfare of everyone." Christian said Essex County was the 27th county fair in the state to be canceled for this year, adding he knew another county was meeting June 2 and would be announcing their cancellation. Christian said he felt working with the vendors in the wake of the cancellation would not be a concern, as many have already worked with other fairs that have been canceled. The fair, which would have been celebrating its 172nd year, was scheduled to be held from Aug. 19-23. Fundraising to continue Christian said the fair board will continue to raise funds for the annual event, including their annual golf tournament at the Willsboro Golf Course in July. "We are also going to try and host a drive-in movie theater at the fairgrounds, as well, like they have done in Franklin County and are planning to do in Clinton," he said.
