New name, expansion for Warren Co. realty association

QUEENSBURY — It took nearly a year, but the formerly named Warren County Association of Realtors is now officially known as Southern Adirondack Realtors, Inc. "The main reason for the the change is that we are expanding. We cover more than Warren County," said Angie Mead, association president for 2016. Territory of sales extends into Saratoga, Washington and Essex counties, she said. A handful of other names were considered, thought the final choice seemed the best fit. "We have been expanding the geography of where our realtor and business affiliate members are based and do business and so we wanted our name to reflect that growth and diversity," said Mead. Part of the delay in the name change, which must approved at the national level, was opposition from the Northern Adirondack Board of Realtors. Mead traveled to San Diego last fall for the process in getting the name change approved. The association currently has more than 470 professional members and 600 participants in their subsidiary, also just renamed The Southern Adirondack Multiple Listing Service. The association began as the Glens Falls Board of Realtors in 1959. Only those real estate professionals who belong to the National Association of Realtors are authorized to call themselves professional realtors. The association, based at 296 Bay Road in Queensbury, provides educational services, marketing and networking programs, a myriad of sales support tools, as well as provides a conduit for real estate professionals to be part of NYSAR and the National Association of Realtors in a meaningful and more local way, according to a press release. There recurrently more than 50 affiliate members locally that include businesses such as attorneys, home inspectors and industry trades, financial institutions and mortgage services. Last year, the association's programs provided community outreach support to the region. Outreach programs included members donating their time weekly to deliver Meals-On-Wheels to shut ins, the hosting of two Red Cross Blood Drives and providing fundraising efforts to benefit the Adirondack Save-a- Stray, Wait House, South Glens Falls Marathon and the Open Door Soup Kitchen. Five families from across the region were supported through their Adopt-a-Family program at the holidays and cases of school supplies were collected and donated to the North Warren Central School.
