New North Creek doctor enjoys scenic ride to work

NORTH CREEK — A long, scenic drive into the Adirondacks is just what this doctor ordered. Coming to North Creek to staff the health center is Doctor Danushan Sooriabalan, 32. He replaces longtime practitioner Daniel Way at the North Creek Health Center. Sooriabalan and his wife are building a home in Clifton Park to accommodate both their commutes, so he'll soon be driving the rural highways into the mountains. "It's a really beautiful ride," he said, and he enjoys the time to himself on the way to and from the health centers. Sooriabalan will staff the health center when Doctor Daniel Way leaves next month, and will also staff the Chestertown clinic and the Glens Falls Hospital. He'll be one of the younger staffers of the Hudson Headwaters Healthcare Network, and said, "I can't wait to start learning from the old pros." He said he always liked the sciences in public school, and enjoys helping people. An interest in medicine grew organically from that. Practicing in a rural area will give him a chance to use his broad medical knowledge, and give him access to the region's outdoor recreation. He earned his undergraduate degree in natural science and biology at the University of Western Ontario. He attended medical school at Saint George's University on the island of Grenada in the West Indies. He went on to do two years of clinicals in New York, and just finished his residency in internal medicine at Albany Medical Center.
