Steven L. Smith band plans local concerts

BRANTLAKE -The Steven L. Smith Band has achieved several notable recent accomplishments, including a high-profile regional concert date and a new recording. Following his critically acclaimed "Outside of Tupelo" recording, the band's new CD "Pieces" has just been released. The work expands on his exploration of the authentic country roots sound. The band is planning on an extensive European and U.S. tour over the next 12 months, and the CD is already getting airplay here and overseas, Smith said this week in an interview. Apparently it includes a duet with country music star Crystal Gayle. The big local story, however, may be that the band has booked a concert date of Aug. 27 at the Lake George Forum with a nationally acclaimed band, whose name could not be published this week due to pending arrangements. This three-act concert is also expected to feature an appearance with Christine Ohlam of Saturday Night Live Band, Steven Smith said Friday. "We want to bring our kind of music to this area in a larger way," he said. The concert is to be a fundraiser for local homeless in the area, with $1 of each ticket cost going to an agency meeting the needs of those without adequate shelter or food. "Pieces," incidentally, features Oak Ridge Boys' Joe Bonsall on banjo, and Tommy White of the Grand Ole Opry playing steel guitar, Smith said, as well as Jimmy Van Zant. "So far, 'Pieces' is doing well," Smith said, noting that Cashbox was planning a review of the recording. The recording is available for purchase at The Crossroads just off Northway Exit 25, and The Ice Cream Parlor in Chestertown, as well as on iTunes and other digital distribution venues. The Steven L. Smith Band will be touring the U.S. this summer, including concerts at Myrtle Beach during Bike Week in May, preceded by appearences in North Carolina, and a concert at the famed Sturgis motorcycle rally in South Dakota in summer, and a concert in Chicago. During Americade week in Lake George - slated for the first week of June - the band will be playing at the Painted Pony Ranch, The Waterhouse Restaurant in Lake Luzerne, the Water Hole in Saranac Lake, and the Blue Moose in Lake George.
