"Most Interesting Man in the World" coming to Rutland

Jonathan Goldsmith, the actor who portrays the Most Interesting Man in the World in the popular "Dos Equis" commercials, will speak at College of St. Joseph at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17, in Tuttle Hall Theater. "Hollywood Tales with Jonathan Goldsmith" will feature Goldsmith recounting interesting anecdotes about his career in Hollywood and commenting on some of his film credits. There will also be a question-and-answer session for the the crowd. The cost is $10 for general admission. Tickets are available at www.csj.edu/goldsmith. Proceeds from the event will benefit CSJ's Provider Scholarship Program and Hunger Free Vermont. Goldsmith has appeared in more than 300 television shows including "Charlie's Angels," "Knight Rider," and "MacGyver." He starred alongside Burt Lancaster in the 1978 drama "Go Tell the Spartans," which chronicled a unit of American military advisers in Vietnam. In 2006 Goldsmith won the role of "The Most Interesting Man in the World" using his personal experiences to help create the character: a cross between Ernest Hemingway, Bill Murray, Burt Reynolds, and Royal Tenenbaum. The South American accent he dons when he delivers the pitch line "I don't always drink beer, but when I do, I prefer Dos Equis" is inspired from Argentinian-born actor Fernando Lamas, whom Goldsmith regarded as a very dear friend. The Dos Equis campaign, in its eighth year can be seen everywhere — from international television commercials, to print ads, to billboards. Goldsmith also supports and is involved with various charities, including The Morris Animal Foundation and the Mines Advisory Group.
