Community reaches out to fire victims

POULTNEY - The Rev. David H. Adams, pastor of the Poultney and Fair Haven United Methodist Churches, is on a mission. He's looking for community members to support the "Morse Family Relief Mission". The Morse family-Suzanne, Glenn, Moriah, Alivia, Bradly and Chris-lost their home and all personal possessions in fire March 2. Both parents are on disability and unable to work. Rev. Adams' mission intends to invite neighbors to participate in a community effort to provide both short and long term relief to the Morse family's resettlement. Currently, the family resides with Suzanne Morse's sister, Suzette Blazer, in a two-bedroom house in Fair Haven. The Morse children, Bradly and Alivia, will continue to attend classes at the Poultney school. The family will continue to receive mail at their Poultney address: 169 York St., Poultney 05764. Rev. Adams said that the family's most immediate needs include food and clothing. These items may be dropped off at the Rutland Southwest Supervisory Union building above-noted, Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. The minister said that the family needs clothing in the following sizes: Glenn = 40 (W) x 31 (L); Suzanne = 8-10; Moriah = 18-20; Alivia = 12-14; Bradly = 10-12 (husky); Chris = 30 (W) x 32 (L). Adams said he wants the public to know that the Morse Family Relief Fund has been established at the Citizens Bank on Main Street in Poultney village to address some of the financial needs which will not be met or covered by insurance. The pastor and members of the United Methodist Church community are inviting all to rally in support and offer compassionate care with us to this family in their time of need. "We hope to see funds raised through individual and organizational giving, community fund raisers and other benevolent and humanitarian aid," Adams said. "Through your generosity, we hope these efforts will help send a community message to the Morse family and meet some of their material needs as they seek to rent a house and make plans for their next steps. "Your help will be appreciated deeply. You may help by getting the word out or by placing collection jars or cans in places of business. Please hold the family in your prayers and thoughts in the weeks and months ahead and imagine what you might need if you were in a similar situation.
