Saturday's snowfall boosts weekend's skiing at Gore Mountain

Two to four inches of new snow Saturday night have put an exclamation point on the snowfall that has already accumulated at Gore Mountain, and hundreds of skiers are enjoying early-season skiing this weekend, Gore officials said Sunday. "We're excited about the crowd and the snow conditions here," Gore Manager Mike Pratt said. "We're happy that Mother Nature nature gave us this gift, allowing the opportunity to have a really good start on our season." Gore's gondola which takes skiers to the top of the mountain is open, and so is the Sunway life. Open for skiing as of noon Sunday were the challenging Foxlair, Ruby Run, Sunway and Quicksilver trails, as well as Arena and 3B, both intermediate runs, as well as the easy Jamboree trail. A total of seven trails — about three miles total — are open. This is the second week of operation for the 2013-14 season. Last weekend's opening of Gore was the earliest opening of the full-service ski resort since 1986. Gore is featuring a promotion that now only is building up a crowd, but is helping local people in need: For each item of canned food brought to the ski center, a $10 discount on a lift ticket will be given — there's a $20 maximum discount. The food is donated to the food pantry at Johnsburg's Outreach Center, which provides various services to the community all year long., Pratt extended a welcome to people to come up to Gore and join the fun. "Skiing conditions are great, and in addition to the snow that's fallen, we're making snow like crazy, " he said. "We've go a nice crowd, every trail that's open is in great shape, and we're expanding terrain as fast as we can."
