Minnesota insurance co. donates thousands of personal hygiene kits to Warren Co.

QUEENSBURY | A Minnesota business's decision to hold a corporate retreat on Lake George has been a big win for Warren County's schools and charitable organizations. Warren County Public Health got a call a few weeks ago that at first seemed too good to be true: Someone wanted to donate more than 1,000 personal hygiene kits for their Home Care clients. That many kits would be far more than their Home Care clients could use, so they wondered if they could be donated to other organizations. They were told they could go wherever they deemed appropriate. Consequently, Public Health Program Administrator and Emergency Preparedness Coordinator Dan Durkee began looking for homes for 1,104 14-piece personal hygiene kits. Happily, every school district and 15 community Warren County organizations have received or are about to receive some. The kits were donated by Lockton RE, a global insurance provider that earlier this month held a corporate retreat in Bolton Landing. As part of the retreat, a team-building exercise was held for staff to assemble kits that Lockton purchased through a charitable program known as Kits for a Cause, a Canadian social enterprise that puts donors and charitable groups in touch with one another. The kits include toothbrush, toothpaste, body wash, a washcloth, tissues, comb and other personal hygiene items. Organizations such as Family Service Association of Glens Falls, Inc., WAIT House, Catholic Charities, The Salvation Army Glens Falls, The Open Door Mission, Warren County Department of Social Services, North Country Ministry and local food pantries signed on to help distribute them to their clients. Each school district will get at least 50 kits, with the bigger districts receiving 25 per building. Warren County Public Health expressed gratitude for "an amazing gift that will have an immediate impact around Warren County!"
