North Country Honor Flight to honor 30 veterans Oct. 3

PLATTSBURGH | North Country Honor Flight will honor 30 veterans on Saturday, Oct. 3, as part of Flights 74 and 75, providing another group of North Country veterans with an opportunity to visit the memorials dedicated to their service and sacrifice. The 30 veterans traveling on the October mission come from New York and Vermont. Their service spans several generations and conflicts, including veterans who served during the Vietnam War and the Cold War era. The mission will bring together veterans with different military experiences and backgrounds for a shared day of remembrance, camaraderie and gratitude. A COMMUNITY-SUPPORTED MISSION Flights 74 and 75 are being sponsored through a partnership between American Legion Post 1619, the Sons of the American Legion, the American Legion Riders, the American Legion Auxiliary, and local business owner Brent Rogers of The Grass Hole. North Country Honor Flight is grateful for the commitment of each of these organizations and individuals to ensuring that veterans from our region have the opportunity to experience this special journey. The partnership reflects the continuing commitment of the American Legion family and local businesses to recognize and honor the men and women who have served our country. A DAY OF HONOR AND REMEMBRANCE North Country Honor Flight was created to ensure that veterans from the region have the opportunity to visit the memorials in Washington, D.C., that were built to honor their service and the service of their fellow Americans. For many veterans, seeing these memorials in person alongside other veterans is an experience they will carry with them for the rest of their lives. The Oct. 3 mission will provide 30 veterans with a day centered around their service, surrounded by fellow veterans, family, friends, guardians, volunteers and supporters from throughout the North Country. JOIN THE SENDOFF The sendoff ceremony will take place at the U.S. Oval in Plattsburgh beginning promptly at 7 a.m. Family members, friends, fellow veterans and community members are encouraged to gather at the U.S. Oval to give the 30 veterans the sendoff they deserve as they begin their journey to Washington, D.C. Following the ceremony, breakfast will be served at American Legion Post 1619, free of charge to all veterans. North Country Honor Flight will also have merchandise available for purchase at the sendoff, giving supporters an opportunity to show their NCHF pride while helping support the organization's mission through the winter months. NEW WEBSITE NOW LIVE North Country Honor Flight is also reminding veterans, families, volunteers and supporters that its new website is now live. The website was designed and built by Champlain Valley Web Designs, a local Plattsburgh web design agency specializing in websites for small businesses and community organizations throughout Northern New York and Vermont. Community members are encouraged to visit the new website and stay connected with North Country Honor Flight throughout the year.
