Solid season predicted for B-W boys

BOLTON LANDING | Armed with optimism and determination, the 2026 Bolton-Warrensburg Boys Soccer team aims to reclaim the glory of their 2022, 2023, and 2024 seasons. In 2022 and 2023, the B-W boys won the Adirondack League championship, and in 2024, the team was undefeated in their regular season. The 2025 B-W boys faced tough competition, and they finished 7-8-1 despite scoring nearly one-third more goals than their opponents. Although the team lost accomplished players Will Hens, Jacob French, Andrew Morehouse, and Colton Stannard to graduation in June, the B-W team has a strong 2026 roster of talented players whom coach Rob Thomas said collectively have considerable skills, optimism, and high expectations. Also, the team is now competing in Class D, rather than Class C, in which they resided since the two schools merged boys soccer in 2022 — and this change is likely to boost their prospects. "Our 2026 team looks to bring fresh energy and enthusiasm to the program," coach Thomas said, predicting his athletes will be "showcasing a style and intensity that aims to surprise their opponents." Jaden Nieves has taken on the goalkeeper position, leading the defense, which features Sam Foy, Cody Bacon, Abram Monroe, Teddy Phelps, Maris Martin, Chris Touma, Liam Graves and Carsen Clark. Midfielders Ben Birkholz, Abe Figueroa, Cole Hoerter, Ben Wells, and Jaxon French are expected to execute well-placed passes to front-line scoring threats Randy Girard, Hunter Rausch, Lance Corey, Carson Foran, and Carter Rausch. "With the blend of experienced leadership and youthful vigor, our team has the potential to exceed expectations this season," coach Thomas said. To date this season, B-W boys are 2-2. On Sept. 12, They defeated Class C Stillwater 2-1 in a non-league matchup. Birkholz scored a penalty kick after Hunter Rausch was taken down in front of the goal. Six minutes later, Stillwater scored. But 24 minutes into the second half, Rausch scored the game-winner with a shot into a top corner of the goal. On Sept. 9, Bolton-Warrensburg lost 3-1 to Argyle. Ten minutes into the game, Wells scored a goal for B-W, but Argyle scored two first-half goals to earn the win after a scoreless second half. On Sept. 5, B-W Boys defeated Cambridge-Salem 4-1 by controlling the ball in the first half — leading to three early goals — then adding a final goal in the second half. Scorers were Girard, Hunter Rausch and Birkholz. On Sept. 3 against Class B Taconic Hills, Bolton-Warrensburg boys were defeated 3-1 despite controlling the ball in the first 15 minutes, action that culminated in a score by Birkholz on a penalty kick awarded due to a foul. However, Taconic answered with three successive goals. Coach Thomas praised his players' camaraderie and determination. "If they harness their skills, adapt to challenges, and maintain their intensity, there's optimism for a successful season ahead," Thomas said. "Our fans should look forward to an exhilarating year of soccer."
