Clinton Co. Board of Elections assure elections remain transparent, safe and secure

PLATTSBURGH | The Clinton County Board of Elections wants to ensure confidence in every registered voter in Clinton County that elections are administered with care, ballots are protected at every step, and every vote will be counted. "Clinton County voters can have complete confidence in the integrity of our elections," the Commissioners said in a joint statement. "Every ballot is handled under New York State Election Law, with bipartisan oversight from start to finish. Whether you vote in person on Election Day, early, or by mail, there is a clear process designed to protect your vote, and the public's trust." said Mary R Dyer and David J Souliere IV Election Commissioners. Absentee and Early Vote by Mail ballots are processed with signature review, and established chain of custody procedures. In-person voting uses certified voting systems. Results are canvassed according to law, and the public may follow official information, including results at clintoncountyny.gov/boe. These safeguards exist so every lawful ballot is counted, and only lawful ballots are counted, Commissioners said. The Board understands that some voters may feel anxious about absentee, or Early Vote by Mail options, but said "You do not need to worry, you have several reliable ways to return your ballot, and a little planning makes the process simple and secure." The Commissioners offer this practical guidance: -Request ballots as early as possible. Do not wait. Applying early gives time to receive, complete, and return ballots without rushing. -Send it back as soon as received. Complete ballots promptly and return it the same day or the following. -If close to the postmark deadline, voters should go inside their local post office and ask a postal clerk to hand-stamp or apply a dated postmark to your ballot envelope. Do not rely on a curbside mailbox at the last minute. New York law requires a timely postmark (no later than Election Day) and receipt by the Board within seven days after Election Day. Ballots can always be dropped off in person. Hand delivery is the most certain method and removes any concern about the mail. Voters may return a completed absentee or early mail ballot in any of the following ways: -Clinton County Board of Elections office — 137 Margaret St., Suite 104, Plattsburgh, NY 12901, during regular business hours and through the close of polls on Election Day. -Early Voting at the Clinton County Government Center, 137 Margaret St., 1st Floor Meeting Room, Plattsburgh, during the early voting period. -Any poll site on Election Day -By mail- postmarked no later than Election Day and received by the Board no later than seven days after Election Day. For the Nov. 3 General Election, that means postmarked by Nov. 3 and received by Nov. 10. If voters prefer not to use the mail at all, voting in person during early voting or on Election Day remains available to every eligible voter. Early voting for the General Election runs Saturday, Oct. 24 through Sunday, Nov. 1 at the Government Center in Plattsburgh. Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3. Staff are ready to walk residents through the options so everyone can vote with peace of mind. "Your vote belongs to you, and our job is to protect it," the Commissioners said. "Request your absentee, or Early Vote by mail ballot early, return it promptly, or bring it to us in person, and remember however you choose to vote, whether by mail, or in person, Clinton County is prepared, our systems are secure, and we will count every valid ballot."
